Characterizing the PTW microDiamond Detector in Orthovoltage Radiation

Graduate Researcher: Ahtesham Khan

Summary: Diamond detectors (DD) have been found to be suitable for small field dosimetry due to their very small sensitive volume (0.004 mm3), near water equivalence (Z = 6), excellent radiation hardness, and minimal temperature and directional dependence. These detectors are found to have an energy independence for electron and photon beams with the energies in the megavoltage range. However, an energy dependence is reported for DD in the kilovoltage photon beams. This work aims to characterize a PTW microDiamond (60019) single crystal synthetic diamond detector (DD) in orthovoltage x-ray beams.
