An Objective Determination of Plan Class Specific Reference Fields for Non-Standard Linear Accelerator Treatments

With potentially faster treatment times and better normal tissue sparing, highly modulated external beam cancer treatments are becoming increasingly popular. The added complexities of dynamic treatments such as small fields, irregular fields, and steep dose gradients make it difficult to ensure accurate dosimetry. The purpose of this project is to determine candidate representative plans, and to quantify the expected gain in accuracy from calibrating dosimeters closer to actual delivery conditions.
