The University of Wisconsin Radiation Calibration Laboratory (UWRCL) is currently accredited by both the AAPM and the A2LA for calibration of well-type re-entrant ionization chambers for the Best Medical International BetaCath™ system (3.5F 90Sr). A brief overview of the calibration considerations is provided below. For additional information regarding any of the IVBT sources described below, please contact Wendy Kennan or Dan Anderson.

Best Medical International BetaCath™ (90Sr): Calibration of well chambers for the Novoste system is much more specific due to the nature of chamber energy response to beta radiation. As a result of this dependence, the source holder must be considered a part of the well chamber system, and the calibration is only valid for use with the holder specified in the report. ADCL staff reserve the right to reject instruments from calibration that do not have appropriate source holders designed for measurement of the Novoste source trains. The reported calibration coefficients for the 3.5F system is in units of Absorbed Dose to Water at a Depth of 2mm per Ampere. No activity calibration is available for the 3.5F at this time. The original Novoste 5.0F system has been discontinued by the manufacturer and calibration is no longer available.
